At the new prices, if you have to throw in another 200.00 + for good pu's.they are not such a bargain. Nice woods, very clean construction, really outstanding fret work but the pu's were pretty much typical Asian import stuff.

Following Gibson's lead, maybe? – Uncle Daddy I understand they've just hiked all the prices by quite a margin. Big beefy neck, good paint and binding, cheapo pups and pots. Cheaper than an electromatic, with a hard case included. It was made well enough, at least as good as a 5120 in terms of construction and finish, with faultless fretwork out of the box.

I had one of the gold 295 copies, the Gigmaster SC. But if what you are looking for is something close to a Gretsch hollow electric but at a more reasonable price, the new Gretsch Electromatics are the ticket IMO. That all being said, Peerless apparently does make some fine quality instruments. The Peerless carved top, solid wood jazz boxes with floating pu's are another story. They also have a bad habit of outfitting their "Gretschalikes" with B-7 Bigsbys instead of B-6's even though they have floating bridge bases. As far as all solid wood construction is concerned, IMO I don't think it is an advantage on a fully electric guitar.if anything the guitar would probably be even more susceptable to feedback. In checking the specs on the Peerless website, one thing to keep in mind is that all their "Gretsch" style models have the longer 25.5" scale. Any thoughts on these? I'm just not really digging the headstock look, other wise It would be a no brainer purchase for me.Īnd sorry if this is an old topic perhaps discussed previously? I am a new member.

I was curious as to how it might sound acoustically? Obviously the pickups and electronics are dogs and would have to be switched to quality tv jones style filtertrons or some other boutique equivalent, but for less than half the price of an all laminate MIJ Gretsch, I am seriously considering ordering one and switching out the pickups and electronics. That being said has anyone tried any of their all solid wood Gretsch style arch top electrics such as their 6120 style called the tone master? And it streets for a very reasonable $1195! I know since the whole Asian solid wood arch top craze that started a few years back with companies like Eastman has allowed for there to be much more competitively priced solid wood built arch tops, where traditionally solid wood arch tops were way out of the reach of the average working class musician. That being said I looked into some of their other models that they have to offer, and I was very surprised to see that they offer a Gretsch 6120 style guitar with all solid wood as opposed to laminate. Regardless of the wood construction it is a decent axe that I am thoroughly impressed with for the money.

I even tried emailing Peerless with the serial number to find out what was up and well its been over month and no one got back to me. However I'm having trouble deciphering if it could indeed have a solid top or not due to the way the binding is.

My years of experience knows how to tell if a top is solid by following the wood grain to an edge to see if it goes through. I have to say I am quite impressed with the guitar and in fact the volume acoustically is so loud on this thing, that I'm not sure if this could maybe even feature a solid top which isn t normal for this model but there have been a bunch of model variation one off unique 2013 NAMM demo models that have been floating around and ebay the latter which I purchased mine from.

Over the last couple of years they have started to slowly trickle into the states by way of a couple of East coast importer/dealers.Īfter hearing some good reviews about the I was always tempted and curious to try one, which I did over this past summer when a deal too good to pass up was to be had on Ebay for one of their Benedetto all laminate style 17 inch single pickup, big body Manhattan model arch top. For those not familiar with them they have been around for years producing various OEM guitars out of Korea under different manufacturers labels, most notably Epiphone and I may be mistaken but do they also produce the Electromatic Gretsch guitars?Īnyhow, under their own branded Peerless name they have been around for awhile in other markets around the world in particular the UK and Europe.
